Laundry Room

Life is messy. That seems more true when you have kids. The amount of laundry that we accrue in a week is ridiculous. I know we’re not alone because we’ve had multiple families ask about re-doing their laundry space to make it more functional. For many of us, laundry machines are shoved into a corner (or hallway). That’s all fine and good when you do laundry once every two weeks. When you have a family that seems to pride itself in creating mountains of laundry, the piles takeover the house. Finally, when you admit defeat and the marathon of laundry begins, the house becomes an obstacle course. I speak from experience, can you tell?

Anyway, all of that to say, laundry space is more important than we want to believe. Having a dedicated space makes life a little less cluttered, even if life will always be messy. In this Wilmington, NC home we moved the washer and dryer out of the kitchen hallway and into a room used as flex space. The homeowner chose some cool details to make this work including a built-in ironing board and rolling laundry cart. The recessed lighting really brightened the room, and the butcher block counters and floating shelves tied the space together nicely. Take a look at the photos below!
