Little Upgrades, Big Difference - Kitchen, Flooring and Open Concept Remediation

Little upgrades made a big difference at this beautiful Wilmington home. By tearing down one wall, we were able to create an open concept in their shared space. Upgraded LVT flooring and upgrades in the kitchen make this house shine. Take a look at the descriptions and photos below for full details on this project.

OPEN CONCEPT

We opened a wall to connect the dining, living, and kitchen spaces. The end result is an open concept home with line of sight into every area. Take a look at the photos below to see the progress, from demo, to temporary wall and beam placement.

FLOORING

What started out as opening a wall turned into an unexpected new floor once we discovered that the existing laminate flooring (although very pretty) contained formaldehyde. For more information on formaldehyde flooring, you can visit the CDC website.

We removed the dark laminate flooring and replaced it with this luxury vinyl tile (LVT). The finish offers a gorgeous wood floor look without the maintenance, and lighter colors make the space feel spacious and inviting.

KITCHEN UPGRADES

The final touches for this project were in the kitchen. Upgraded recessed lighting, new backsplash, and countertops finished this project and the end results are stunning. The homeowners were able to keep the existing cabinet boxes, and simply upgraded the countertops to a gorgeous granite with gray marbling and a unique leathered finish. The traditional look of subway tile is made more modern by using smaller, mini-subway tile for the backsplash. Removing the bulky lighting fixtures in the kitchen and breakfast nook area, and installing recessed lighting makes the kitchen spaces brighter and feel larger.
